After weeks of living and working out of my 4Runner, I was tired. Tired of constantly packing and unpacking, tired of searching for places to camp, tired of the mosquitoes—and honestly, ready to go home.

But I still had one very important reason for being in Michigan: a family reunion in the Upper Peninsula.

So instead of continuing to force the trip to work the way I had originally planned, I changed course. I checked into a hotel, rented an Airbnb for a week, slowed down, and finally gave myself (and Blaze) a chance to settle in.

And that’s when I realized just how exhausted I actually was.

In this final chapter of our Michigan road trip, we explore a little more of the U.P., spend some much-needed time doing ordinary things, reunite with family, and eventually make the long drive back home to North Carolina.

This trip didn’t turn out anything like the one I spent nine months planning. But sometimes changing the plan is exactly what you need.
