I Planned the Perfect Road Trip, Then Everything Changed

I spent weeks planning the beginning of this road trip—researching trails, forest roads, campsites, overlooks, and all the places Blaze and I wanted to explore on our way to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Turns out, the trip had other plans.

After days of delays and last-minute 4Runner prep, Blaze and I are finally on the road. The awning finally makes it onto the 4Runner, I make one last attempt to prepare for Michigan’s infamous mosquitoes, and we head toward our first stop at Whitetop Mountain in Virginia.

It was supposed to be the beginning of the trip I had carefully mapped out.

Instead, a long stretch of severe weather sends us in a completely different direction—and pretty quickly, I realize I may need to throw the plan out altogether.

Sometimes the adventure you plan isn’t the adventure you get.

This is Episode 5 of our Michigan Road Trip: 4Runner Car Camping Adventure series.
