I Replaced My 400W Solar Blanket With Roof-Mounted Solar Panels

After selling my van and switching to a 2025 Toyota 4Runner, one of the things I missed most was having (almost) unlimited power.

During my first month-long road trip through Colorado and New Mexico, I relied on a combination of a Bluetti AC70, a 12V charger, and a 400W Renogy solar blanket to keep my fridge, Starlink Mini, and electronics running. While the setup worked, I quickly realized I was spending far too much time thinking about battery life.

So I decided to permanently mount solar panels to the roof of my 4Runner.

In this video, I’ll walk you through the installation of two Renogy 120W ShadowFlux Anti-Shading solar panels, how I connected them to my Bluetti power station, and why this simple upgrade has made life on the road a lot easier.

Sometimes the best upgrades aren’t about adding more capability.

They’re about removing friction.

Thanks for watching!
