I’ve never built a drawer before.
During the van build, I helped my dad with cabinet building and woodworking projects, but I was always the assistant. This is the first piece of furniture I’ve ever built completely on my own… and I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
After traveling out west last fall, I learned pretty quickly that my original 4Runner sleeping setup worked — but it definitely wasn’t working well. Sleeping high in the vehicle meant less headroom, awkward storage, and a lot of climbing around gear every day.
In this video, I’m building a custom drawer system, lowering my sleeping platform, making mistakes, learning as I go, and hopefully creating a setup that works better for longer adventures with Blaze and me.
This project definitely isn’t perfect. The drawer isn’t perfectly square. But I’m learning that sometimes the best information only shows up after you begin.
