Join me as I backpack up to Mt Leconte Lodge in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with my good friend Sheila. We decided to hike the Trillium Gap Trail up to the lodge. It’s the one the llamas take. Unfortunately, we missed them on this trip.

We covered 6.7 miles and gained 3,300 feet in elevation. We made it to the top without coming across any bears, thankfully! We had a lovely overnight stay in our rustic cabin with a kerosene heater. And we were so grateful for the warm, comforting food and red wine that the kind staff served us, family-style, alongside the rest of the guests. We enjoyed chatting with our tablemates about which trails they hiked, if they came across any bears, and where they were from.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend you give it a try.
