This is one of our top favorite hikes thus far!

The Catwalk National Recreation Trail in the Gila National Forest is a little hidden gem. It feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere, because it is. We visited during the week, which is probably why we didn’t see very many people—ah, one of the many joys of living full-time in a van.

There are so many river crossings that you lose count. The constant change in views, pathways, and the ever-howling wind will keep you intrigued. It’s one of those places you have to see in person to truly appreciate the history, the charm, and the struggle to keep a walkway in place all these years.

Which is why I can’t wait to go back!
